The Irish Local Development Network (ILDN), representing Ireland’s 49 Local Development Companies (LDCs), has congratulated member company Ballyhoura Development for its part in the East Limerick Traveller Project on the announcement of the 2021 Aontas STAR Awards.

The Aontas Star Awards are an initiative coordinated by AONTAS as part of the annual Adult Learners’ Festival to acknowledge the fantastic work undertaken by adult learning projects throughout Ireland. This prestigious award recognises the outstanding work achieved by the project in adult learning and supporting the health and wellbeing of the Travelling Community in East Limerick. The East Limerick Traveller Project supports Health and Wellbeing and aims to improve health outcomes for members of the Travelling Community in East Limerick.

Commenting on Ballyhoura Development’s success, ILDN Chairman Jim Finn said; “It is wonderful to see this project which is coordinated by Ballyhoura Development with the support of the Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP) and the HSE receive this important recognition. Local Development Companies with the assistance of SICAP are doing tremendous work supporting Traveller Communities across Ireland and it is always encouraging to see this valuable work acknowledged and celebrated. On behalf of the ILDN I wish to congratulate Ballyhoura Development and all involved with the East Limerick Traveller Project.”
