The ILDN has called on the Government to increase the budget of the only national social inclusion and anti poverty programme in the State; SICAP.
The call was made in their pre-budget submission to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform.
As part of the National Reform Programme, Ireland has made a commitment to reduce consistent poverty to 4% by 2016 and to 2% or less by 2020. Despite these commitments, the funding for social inclusion has been cut by 42% since 2009, while the rates of poverty, deprivation, and social exclusion in Ireland continue to rise,
In their pre-budget submission the ILDN evidence why more investment is required in social inclusion and anti-poverty measures.
