Castleblaney Community Enterprise - Festivals Project
Supported by Cavan-Monaghan LEADER
A joint venture between Breffni Integrated Ltd & Monaghan Integrated Development
Castleblayney Community Enterprise is a very active and progressive organisation which has been involved in community development in the region for many years.
In 2010, the promoter applied to Cavan-Monaghan LEADER for assistance to implement a promotional plan and to purchase infrastructure for 6 festivals / events as part of a coordinated initiative by six local groups from the Castleblaney area, Co. Monaghan.
This project involved six local groups coming together to pool their resources and to agree an agenda and timetable for the sharing of equipment used in the running of the events. In previous situations the event organisers would have hired in the equipment at a large expense thereby significantly reducing any profit generated by the groups. An added benefit of this arrangement is that there would be no overlapping / clashing of events in the area.
The group received grant aid of €28,468 which enabled them to purchase the necessary event equipment and to undertake a marketing / promotional campaign for the schedule of festivals and events.
The equipment purchased by the group included crowd control barriers, street cones, and common signage for promoting each event, PA system, street banners, promotional flags and pop up stands.
The group also undertook a comprehensive and combined marketing/ promotion campaign which involved the production of programme books, flyers and the purchase of 3000 calendars.
Whilst there were no jobs provided as a direct result of this project, the funding has helped to ensure the success and viability of these festivals run by local groups which in turn attract a large number of people to the region on an annual basis. The increased number of visitors attending the festivals helps to support local accommodation and food enterprises thereby indirectly helping to maintain employment and sustain jobs in this rural region.
