Person Profile: Shoba
Shoba is an active member of Galway City’s Indian Community which is one of 18 ethnic minority groups supported by Galway City Partnership. The community is a member of the Intercultural Forum and the Galway City Annual Intercultural Festival and Barbecue competition first held in 2008.
In 2011 Shoba lost her job and was searching for what she would next. She was aware of the enterprise and employment services offered by Galway City Partnership through her involvement in the Indian Community and decided to meet with a GCP Enterprise Officer who suggested that she sign up for the Partnership’s Enterprise scheme.
Shoba was admitted into the Start Your Own Business scheme and completed the training course in March 2011. She commenced self-employment before she finished the training. Her business started as a tutor delivering cookery classes from home. Later, she decided to rent a space when the classes expanded. She now runs a ‘Curry and Spice’ kitchen supplying Joyces and hopefully other stores in the future.
Shoba, is a member of Galway Business Partnership which is a network of participants that have gone through the ‘Start Your Own Business’ Scheme. The network gives further support towards business set up and growth. It is a convenient space for these SMEs to share their experiences and support each other.
